Program Description:

Work at PPL's Career Training Connections, which is comprised of a computer-based learning and job-search lab and classroom-based job training programs. Staff shifts in the Community Access Lab which hosts 5 computers, a Star Tribune Jobs Kiosk and resource materials for walk-in job seekers. Work one-on-one with participants to teach them basic computer skills and to offer support and guidance in their job seeking process.

Major Responsibilities:
• Teach participants basic computer skills so they can access job opportunities
• Assist participants with job-searching, filling out on-line job applications, developing resumes and writing cover letters
• Introduce participants to the Star Tribune electronic Kiosk and PPL's on-line Resource Pages
• Assist participants in the set-up of e-mail accounts and how to attach documents
• Orient new participants to the lab and inform them of resources and procedures
• Remind participants of lab rules and help keep the lab organized and clean
• Help close down lab at the end of the day (if volunteering until 4 pm)

Qualifications Needed:
• Ability to work with adults from diverse cultural backgrounds and income levels
• Ability to be self-directed, oversee computer lab activities and answer questions
• Proficient with computers and using the Internet as a search tool
• Interest in working one-on-one with participants
• Commitment to empower others through sharing your skills and knowledge

Training Provided & Support Plan:
• Orientation and support from program staff -- Lindsey, Guled, and Sarah

Time Commitment and Location:
• PPL Career Training Connections at 810 E. Franklin Ave, 55404 - south Minneapolis on bus lines #2, #5, #24.
• Flexible volunteer shifts on Mon-Fri during the hours of 9:00am – 4:00pm. (1 hr minimum.)
